Bennington College is a private liberal arts college in Bennington, Vermont, United States. Founded as a women’s college in 1932, [ 4 ] it became co-educational in 1969. It is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education .

The landmark district encompasses an area of about 20,000 acres (81 km2), including the entire city limits of Virginia City and a significant portion of Alder Gulch where mining operations took place. Many of the city's buildings were built before the turn of the 20th century, and a significant number date to its heyday in the 1860s.

The Bennington Battle Monument is just over 306 feet high and was completed in 1891 to commemorate the Aug. 16, 1777 Battle of Bennington, considered a turning point in the Revolutionary War.
