The Atoll Hospital is the primary healthcare provider for the people of South Ari Atoll. Some of the services available at the hospital include E.C.G, laboratory investigations, labor, x-ray, ultra sound scanning, vaccination, and medical examination as part of renewing/applying for work-permit.
Surrounded by a lagoon and long stretches of white, sandy beach, and encircled by a reef, it is the only resort on the island. It measures about 240 by 194 metres (787 ft × 636 ft) – 11 hectares (27 acres). Seaplane transfer from Male International Airport is a scenic, 25-minute flight.
The separation of Ari Atoll (formerly Alifu Atoll) on March 1, 1984, into a Northern and a Southern section formed the two most recent administrative divisions of the Maldives, namely Alifu Alifu Atoll and Alifu Dhaalu Atoll. Alifu Dhaalu Atoll lies south of the line between the channels of Himendhoo Dhekunukandu and Genburugau Kandu.
Ari Atoll (also called Alif or Alifu Atoll) is one of the natural atolls of the Maldives. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] It is one of the biggest atolls and is located in the west of the archipelago . The almost rectangular alignment spreads the islands over an area of about 89 by 3 kilometres (55.3 by 1.9 miles).
South Ari Atoll MPA (Marine Protected Area) is an area from the north western tip of the reef crest of Rangali island up to the North Eastern tip of Dhigurah island, the boundary extending 1 km seaward from the epipelagic reef fringe. This area is now known as the South Ari Marine Park. The total length of this MPA is 42 km.
There is a real feel of growth and development on this island, and in many ways it feels more like Male or an atoll capital island than the traditional quiet village that is seen nearby. Adding to this sense of progress is the impossible to miss development of a huge new deep water harbour and airport complex.
