North Carolina Highway 80 (NC 80) is a primary state highway in the U.S. state of North Carolina.The highway connects the various mountain communities straddled along Buck Creek, South Toe River and North Toe River in Western North Carolina and serves as a direct route, via the Blue Ridge Parkway, to Mount Mitchell State Park.
Buck Creek is a 17.3-mile-long (27.8 km) [1] tributary of the Cahaba River that was used to supply water power for manufacturing and industry during the 19th century. Its current use is primarily recreational and as a discharge point for municipal water treatment facilities.
The state park's area is 791 acres (320 ha), while the lake covers 102 acres (41 ha). [2] The name is pronounced with two syllables for "Fork-ed". It fronts on Ohio State Route 124. The park borders the Shade River State Forest, from which it was created in 1951. The dam was created in 1952 when the park was opened to the public. [2]

The park follows Pennsylvania Route 120 for 75 miles (121 km) between Emporium (in Cameron County, which contains 3,239 acres (1,311 ha) of the park) and Lock Haven (in Clinton County, which contains the other 11,800 acres (4,800 ha)).
