Founded in the early 1980s, Treetops Resort in Gaylord, Michigan, initially focused on skiing. In 1987, it introduced the Masterpiece Course, its first golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. The 1990s saw significant growth with the addition of The Premier and The Signature Courses, and the par-3 Threetops course.
In 1974, the Gatlinburg Ski Resort began to go out of business due to publicity from a bad lift accident. It was bought the Anders Family in 1975 and merged with the Gatlinburg Aerial Tramway. In 1977, it was renamed Ober Gatlinburg, [2] [3] which is German for "Upper Gatlinburg" or "Top of Gatlinburg." [4] The upper mall opened in 1982. [4]
The population was 454 at the 2020 census and 502 at the 2010 census. The town borders Gatlinburg and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. U.S. 321 passes through the town. Emert's Cove is situated in Pittman Center, a broad valley along the Middle Fork of the Little Pigeon River.
