Queensgate Shopping Centre (formerly Westfield Queensgate) is a medium sized shopping centre in central Lower Hutt, Wellington, New Zealand. The centre first opened in 1986, and underwent a large scale redevelopment that was completed in August 2006. The centre features over 130 speciality stores.
The Australian company Ipoh bought the four buildings from Wellington City Council for $1 in 1994, on the understanding that they would refurbish the site. [6] In 1997, plans were announced for a $26 million redevelopment of the four Bank of New Zealand buildings into a retail and office complex. Downer Construction was the chosen contractor.
Reading Courtenay Central Complex contained shops, restaurants and a ten-screen multiplex cinema. The 8,000 m 2 development linked Courtenay Place with the waterfront and was designed to complement the existing character of the strip.
