Charnelle Marie Bjelkengren (born 1975) [1] is an American lawyer who has served as a judge of the Spokane County Superior Court since 2019. She is a former nominee to serve as a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Washington.
Spokane's business community hoped to locate the courthouse in the central business district of the city, which was located on the south side of the river. Rural communities in Spokane County advocated for a more rural location, and even threatened to secede and form a new county if a satisfactory site was not chosen.
While each county has a Superior Court, some of the less populated counties are grouped into a single district, sharing a single judge and administration. The judge for these multi-county districts rotates between the counties as needed, with each County Superior Court having its own courtroom and staff.
