In the author–date method (Harvard referencing), [4] the in-text citation is placed in parentheses after the sentence or part thereof that the citation supports. The citation includes the author's name, year of publication, and page number(s) when a specific part of the source is referred to (Smith 2008, p. 1) or (Smith 2008:1).

Manually adding references can be a slow and tricky process. Fortunately, there is a tool called " RefToolbar " built into the Wikipedia edit window, which makes it much easier. To use it, click on Cite at the top of the edit window, having already positioned your cursor after the sentence or fact you wish to reference.

This will insert a footnote into the text and link it to the citation with the corresponding last name and year.
