The bank serves large corporate clients, upscale retail customers and medium to large business enterprises. It is one of the largest commercial banks in Zambia, by assets. As of 31 December 2017, the total asset valuation of the bank was ZMW:8.851 billion (US$893.8 million), with shareholders' equity of ZMW:873.5 million (US$88.2 million). [3]
It was publicly launched on January 13, 2022 [1] by the African Union (AU) and the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) to compliment trading under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) with further future planned rollout in the Caribbean region by end of 2024.
The Governor is the head of the Bank of Zambia. As of August 2022, the Governor serves a six-year term, which will be renewable for further term of six years, after being nominated by the President of Zambia and confirmed by the National Assembly of Zambia following a new legislation – Bank of Zambia (BOZ) Act No. 5 of 2022. On 22 August 2012 the Bank of Zambia issued a press release stating that the changeover date for the rebased currency had been set as 1 January 2013. [10] [11] The parliament assented to the recommendations on November 3, 2012, and the Redomination of Currency Act (Act 8 of 2012) was enacted on December 3, 2012. [12]
The headquarters of the bank and its main branch, are located in Atlas Mara House, at the corner of Church Road and Nasser Road, in the city of Lusaka, the capital and largest city of Zambia. [2] The coordinates of the bank's headquarters are: 15°25'08.0"S, 28°18'02.0"E (Latitude:-15.418889; Longitude:28.300556). [7]
