Christopher Scott Murphy (born August 3, 1973) is an American lawyer, author, and politician serving as the junior United States senator from Connecticut since 2013. A member of the Democratic Party , he previously served in the United States House of Representatives , representing Connecticut's 5th congressional district from 2007 to 2013.
In 1970, he was elected to the New York State Assembly from the Syracuse-based 121st district. [2] He was re-elected twice, and in 1976, he was elected as a justice of the New York Supreme Court. In 1990, he was re-elected to a second term. [1] Murphy died on January 9, 2025, at the age of 94. [1]
