The institution is ISO 9001-2015 certified by BSI, India, and was accredited ('A++' Grade) by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bangalore from November 2018 until 2023.

The institute was renamed "Pune Institute of Engineering and Technology". This was soon changed to present "College of Engineering, Pune" in 2006. With permanent affiliation to the Savitribai Phule Pune University, the institute now is an autonomous engineering school. This has been the biggest change as far as pedagogy at COEP is concerned.
