The Ten Thousand Islands are located near the south end of the Florida peninsula on the Gulf Coast, west of the Everglades Indian Key Pass - Ten Thousand Islands. The Ten Thousand Islands are a chain of islands and mangrove islets off the coast of southwest Florida, between Cape Romano (at the south end of Marco Island) and the mouth of the Lostmans River.
The Ten Thousand Islands National Wildlife Refuge is located in Southwest Florida in Collier County, between Marco Island and Everglades City, Florida. The refuge was first established in 1996 and covers 35,000 acres of the Ten Thousand Islands. The refuge includes both fresh and saltwater, and protects a large area of mangrove forest.
The first resort, the Chehalis Thousand Trails location was first begun on 640 acres (260 ha) [3] and by the late 1970s, contained a pool and lodge. As of 2007, the campground is part of a nature reserve and contains 3,000 camp sites, a 100 foot (30 metres) Slip 'N Slide, and an open area known as Roy Rogers' Field, named in honor of the company's first spokesperson.
Chokoloskee is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) located at the edge of the Ten Thousand Islands in Collier County, Florida, United States. The population was 345 at the 2020 census, down from 359 at the 2010 census. [4] It is part of the Naples–Marco Island Metropolitan Statistical Area.
