The first branch campus, in Penang, began at a temporary location in 1994 before moving to Tanjung Bungah five years later. The second and third branch campuses were founded in Kampar, Perak and Johor in 1998, and the Pahang branch was established in 1999.
The commercial and industrial sectors are the main driving forces of Kampar's economy. More recently, its economy has been further driven by the construction of the new Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) campus. Also, Kampar is known for its freshwater fishing spot as most of the surrounding area is covered by man-made lakes.
The Kampar railway station is a Malaysia train station located and named after the town of Kampar, Perak. The Kampar KTM Railway Station is situated at the south-eastern part of town, in the vicinity of a housing estate known as Taman Melayu Jaya. This new and modern station was officiated in 2007.
