The AW70 series is a group of 4-speed automatic transmissions built by Aisin-Warner, a Japanese-American joint venture company, for the Volvo 240, 740 and 940.There are three different models within the series, all based on the AW70, which was first used in 1981 Volvo models.
M90 [1] is the model designation for an automotive rear-wheel drive gearbox that was introduced in mid-1994 Volvo 940/960. The M90 RWD gearbox and the M56 FWD gearbox are considered to be brother and sister because they are built on the same gearbox platform and have many parts in common. All turbocars have the M90 gearbox as standard from 1995.
For the 1992 model year the 940 GLE was downgraded with a 114 hp (85 kW) version of the 2.3-litre four-cylinder engine and sold as the 940 GL. The 940 SE was in actuality a 960 Turbo sold as the 940 SE, while the 940 Turbo remained largely unchanged. US-sales ended in 1995 in favour of the Volvo 850 and Volvo 960 series.
