Glen Albyn distillery was founded in 1846 by James Sutherland, who was Provost of Inverness at the time. [4]Glen Albyn was closed by The Distillers Company in 1983 and was demolished in 1988.
The Glengyle distillery was founded in 1872 by William Mitchell. Shortly after completion, in 1873 a storm took off the roof of the distillery. [1]Mitchell had previously been involved with Springbank distillery but following a quarrel with his brother John, with whom he owned Springbank, he first joined his other brothers at Reichlachan distillery before venturing out on his own.
The last notable distillery was established by R. J. Lloyd Price in 1887 at Frongoch. His company, the Welsh Whisky Distillery Company, was not a success and was sold in 1900 to William Owen of Bala for £5000. [11] The company was finally liquidated in 1910.
