The South Dakota House of Representatives is the lower house of the South Dakota Legislature.It consists of 70 members, two from each legislative district. Two of the state's 35 legislative districts, Districts 26 and 28, are each subdivided into two single-member districts (26A/26B and 28A/28B).
The district is located entirely in Minnehaha County in South Dakota's largest city, Sioux Falls.Previously a reliably Republican district, after the 2020 redistricting cycle moved the district from the suburbs to downtown Sioux Falls, it elected Democrats to the legislature for the first time in decades in 2022.
In 2021, South Dakota enacted new state legislative and congressional districts after the legislature approved a compromise between two competing proposals.
