It is the third SpongeBob episode animated through stop-motion instead of the usual 2D format, following "It's a SpongeBob Christmas!" and "The Legend of Boo-Kini Bottom". The episode was produced in stop motion animation at Screen Novelties , and was directed by Mark Caballero and Seamus Walsh, two of the founders of the company.
