Bangor (/ ˈ b æ ŋ ɡ ər,-ɡ ɔːr /; [3] [4] Welsh: [ˈbaŋɡɔr] ⓘ) is a cathedral city and community in Gwynedd, North Wales.It is the oldest town in Wales. Historically part of Caernarfonshire, the community had a population of 15,060 at the 2021 census, and the built up area had a population of 16,990.

William Griffith (1480–1545) of Penrhyn Castle was a Welsh politician. He was knighted at Touraine in 1513 [1] [2] and was Chamberlain of North Wales in 1520. [2] [3] He was with Henry VIII of England at the Sieges of Boulogne (1544–46). [1]
Richard Pennant, 1st Baron Penrhyn (1737 – 21 January 1808) was a British politician who represented Petersfield and Liverpool in the House of Commons of Great Britain from 1761 to 1790. He was the owner of Penrhyn Castle , an estate on the outskirts on Bangor , North Wales .
The village grew around the local slate industry, with many houses being built to house quarry workers and their families.The village is renowned for a street of houses that were built by Lord Penrhyn, proprietor of the Penrhyn Quarry and occupier of Penrhyn Castle, to accommodate the workers that refused to strike during the Penrhyn Lockout of 1900–1903.
