Kūkaniloko Birth Site, also known as the Kūkaniloko Birthstones State Monument, is one of the most important ancient cultural sites on the island of Oʻahu.In 1973, it was first listed on the National Register of Historic Places and its boundaries were increased in 1995, [1] after 5 acres (2.0 ha) of land which included the site became a state park in 1992. [2]

In 1829, High Chiefess Kapiʻolani removed the remaining bones and hid them in the Pali Kapu O Keōua cliffs above nearby Kealakekua Bay. She then ordered this last temple to be destroyed. The bones were later moved to the Royal Mausoleum of Hawaii in 1858. [13] The heiau in the park was reconstructed in the 1960s. [14]

Kahekili, (c. 1737–1794) was said to leap 200 feet down to the water from this hill in the mornings before eating breakfast, from a spot called "Kahekili's Leap."
