In the early 1950s, the district enrollment was larger than the school could handle, so the school district decided to split to a junior high and senior high system. In 1954, the school district built a new school, the current Robert E. Fitch Senior High School, in its current location at the top of Fort Hill Road.
It is the only high school in the Austintown Local School District. Athletic teams compete as the Austintown Fitch Falcons in the Ohio High School Athletic Association as a member of the All-American Conference. Notably, in the 1874–1875 school year, Henry P. Armsby taught at Fitchburg High. In 1937, the longest-lasting Fitchburg High School building was erected at 98 Academy Street. This new building was designed by the firm of Coolidge, Shepley, Bulfinch and Abbott to replace the previous high school which had burned down in 1934. [3]
