LaRue, sometimes written as La Rue, is a village in Marion County, Ohio, United States. The population was 676 at the 2020 census. The village is served by Elgin Local School District. LaRue has a public library, a branch of Marion Public Library. [4] LaRue was named for Major William LaRue, who founded the town on June 3, 1851. [5]

Over the next couple of generations, the LaRue family spread west into Kentucky and settled near what later developed into the town of Hodgenville, in LaRue County. Jacob LaRue sold Bloomfield to his brother James and built a new home near Hodgenville in 1800.
