There is much proof to support that Palpatine did indeed allow Mace to win. Vaapad or no Vaapad, Mace Windu is less powerful than Master Yoda. Palpatine bests Yoda, you do the math. The argument that people are cheapening Mace can be countered by simply stating that you are cheapening Palpatine. Only known for Force lightning at best?
