Spring Grove is a village in McHenry County. Portions of unincorporated Lake County, Illinois also utilize Spring Grove postal addresses. It is a commuter village within the Chicago metropolitan area. Per the 2020 census, the population was 5,487. [2] It is also home to Chain O'Lakes State Park. The current village president is Mark Eisenberg.
Between 1919 and 1920, H.C. Pitney operated the building as the H.C. Pitney Variety Store, and the second-floor apartment was occupied by the family of 40th U.S. President Ronald Reagan. It is listed as a contributing property to the Tampico Main Street Historic District , which was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1982.
This district includes 199 contributing buildings that are located in the central business district and surrounding residential areas of the paper mill borough of Spring Grove. Most of the buildings date between 1880 and 1900, and include notable examples of the Queen Anne, Georgian Revival, and Italianate styles. [2]
