The school district is the third largest in the state of Oklahoma , after Oklahoma City Public Schools and Tulsa Public Schools , with an enrollment of 24,075 as of the 2023-2024 school year.
Moore is located just south of Oklahoma City and north of Norman, in central Oklahoma. According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 22.2 square miles (57.4 km 2 ), of which 21.8 square miles (56.5 km 2 ) is land and 0.35 square miles (0.9 km 2 ), or 1.52%, is water.
Central High is located 8.5 miles (13.7 km) west of Marlow and 1 mile (1.6 km) north of SH 7. According to the United States Census Bureau , the town has a total area of 53.8 square miles (139 km 2 ), of which 53.6 square miles (139 km 2 ) is land and 0.1 square miles (0.26 km 2 ) (0.24%) is water.
The first school in the Claremore area was opened to students in 1870. The first major high school was built in 1919; it was the most expensive public school building in the state of Oklahoma at the time. The building was used as a school for almost 80 years, until 1999. The increasing costs of maintenance of the old building forced its closure.
