Mechanicsville is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Hanover County, Virginia, United States. The population was 39,482 during the 2020 census , [ 2 ] up from 36,348 in the 2010 census .
The Mechanicsville Historic District encompasses a small and cohesive working-class neighborhood west of downtown Danville, Virginia.The district is bounded by Upper Street on the northwest; North Floyd Street on the northeast; High Street on the southeast; and North Ridge Street on the southwest.
