The hotel underwent a renovation in 2011 with all of the rooms being refurbished. There is also a 4,600 sq ft (430 m 2) spa at The Peninsula. Located next to the spa is a fitness center and a 60 feet (18 m). pool surrounded by 12 cabanas. [5] The hotel has three restaurants: the Belvedere, the Living Room, and the Roof Garden. [6]
The hotel's food and beverage outlets include the gourmet French restaurant Gaddi's, which has one of the first chef's tables in Hong Kong, and the Philippe Starck-designed 'Felix'. Others are 'Spring Moon', 'Imasa', and 'Chesa', which specialise in Cantonese, Japanese, and Swiss cuisine respectively.
The origins of its corporate parent, The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, Limited, was incorporated in 1866.The first Peninsula hotel opened in Hong Kong in 1928 overlooking Victoria Harbour, where it became known as “The Grande Dame of the Far East,” and where it still stands as the company’s iconic flagship property.
The Peninsula Manila was opened on September 14, 1976, ahead of that year's International Monetary Fund conference. [2] [3] [4] It was built on the corners of Ayala and Makati Avenues, after which they are named. In 1994, the hotel was renovated, with a new fountain and some of the hotel walls were painted with new colors.
