Jack Tupper Daniels (born April 26, 1933) is an American exercise physiologist, running coach and a coach of Olympic athletes. On March 21, 2013, he was named the head coach of the Wells College men's and women's cross country programs. [1] He received his doctoral degree in exercise physiology at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
Mike Smith (born April 3, 1980) is an American coach who has been the director of cross country and track and field at Northern Arizona University since 2017. [2] As the head coach of the men's and women's programs, he has led the men's teams to five NCAA Division I men's cross country championships titles.
While competing to become a six-time all-American in track and cross country at USL, he became the 1966–67 AAU 3,000-meter champion, and won the mile at the 1966 British Selection Games. He coached at New Providence (N.J.) High School (1969–70) and Lafayette (La.) High School (1971) before coming to the University of Arkansas.
Ray Treacy (born November 25, 1954) is a former competitive distance runner and coach of collegiate and professional runners. He began coaching track and field and cross country at Providence College in the U.S. state of Rhode Island in 1984, and became the head coach in 1986.
Jim Hunt was the renowned former head cross-country and track and field coach at Humboldt State University, where he coached Lumberjack teams from 1965 until 1986. His cross-country team won the 1980 NCAA Division II National Championships and his teams regularly finished in the top ten at NCAA Nationals, producing 64 All-Americans and eleven National Champions.
The distance was 5.5 miles (8.9 km) in 2021, but from 2022 onwards it was held over the more standard 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) cross country distance. The competition is organized by Sound Running, and was sponsored by FitnessBank in 2022. Since 2022, it has been held in conjunction with The Running Event expo in Austin. [3]
