John's Pass boardwalk. On September 24, 1848, a strong hurricane struck the West Coast of Florida. It separated the barrier island on the coast and created a waterway known today as John's Pass. John Levique, along with Joseph Silva, was the one who discovered it and named it after himself, and it is now a federally owned canal.
The John's Pass Bridge is a twin-span double-leaf bascule bridge that crosses the John's Pass, connecting Madeira Beach and Treasure Island, Florida. The bascule bridge carries Gulf of Mexico Boulevard, part of SR 699. The southbound span of the Johns Pass Bridge was built in 2008, and the northbound span was built in 2010. [4] [5]

The Sand Key Bridge (also called the Clearwater Pass Bridge) is a girder bridge that crosses the Clearwater Pass, connecting Clearwater and Belleair Beach, Florida. The bridge carries Gulf of Mexico Boulevard, part of SR 699 , and it was built in 1995, replacing the original bascule bridge built in the 1960s.
