Hua Guofeng (/ hw ɑː /; born Su Zhu; 16 February 1921 – 20 August 2008) [1] was a Chinese politician who served as chairman of the Chinese Communist Party and the 2nd premier of China.

Following Tian Han's posthumous rehabilitation in 1979 [10] and Deng Xiaoping's consolidation of power over Hua Guofeng, the National People's Congress resolved to restore Tian Han's original verses to the march and to elevate its status, making it the country's official national anthem on 4 December 1982.
