Sterling, eldest son of Captain Edward Sterling, by Hester, daughter of John Coningham of Derry, was born at Dundalk in 1805. John Sterling, the man of letters, was a younger brother. [1] After keeping some terms at Trinity College, Cambridge, [2] he was on 18 February 1826 gazetted ensign in the 24th Foot.
John Sterling (né Sloss; [1] born July 4, 1938) [2] [3] is an American retired sportscaster, best known as the radio play-by-play announcer of the New York Yankees of Major League Baseball from 1989 to 2024. Sterling called 5,060 consecutive Yankees games from 1989 to 2019.
