West End Kids is a song and dance troupe founded in 2001 by artistic director Martin Gwyn Williams and based in Central London. [1] [2] [3] The troupe performs at festivals, charity events and state occasions, which included a performance at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the 90th birthday of Elizabeth II. [4]
The original production of Stepping Out premiered in 1984 at the Thorndike Theatre, Leatherhead, directed by actress Julia McKenzie with cast: Barbara Ferris (Mavis), Sheri Shepstone (Mrs. Fraser), Charlotte Barker (Lynne), Josephine Gordon (Dorothy), Barbara Young (Maxine), Gabrielle Lloyd (Andy), Ben Aris (Geoffrey), Diane Langton (Sylvia), Peggy Phango (Rose) and Marcia Warren (Vera).
The show was a fictional drama about the lives of six students at a London performing arts school. Based on an idea by Phillips and West End producer David Ian, the series was marketed as the UK's answer to Disney's High School Musical. The show's music was created and written by hit songwriter, and Take That frontman, Gary Barlow. [5]
