It is owned and operated by the network's CBS News and Stations division, and maintains studios and offices on Television Hill in the Woodberry section of Baltimore, adjacent to the transmission tower it shares with several other Baltimore broadcast outlets.

Jerry Turner (August 6, 1929 – December 31, 1987) was an American television news anchorman at WJZ-TV in Baltimore, Maryland.He was from Meridian, Mississippi and began working at the Baltimore television station in August 1962, starting the 6PM Newscast with Al Sanders in 1977.
After retiring from WJZ, Sher's presence on the Baltimore airwaves endured. His Sunday morning public affairs forum Square Off, which he had hosted for many years on WJZ, continued on WMAR-TV. In 2015, Sher began hosting a game show at the Horseshoe Casino in Baltimore.
