Volkswagen has only used one fundamental design for its V8 engine - an all-aluminium alloy construction, but with evolutions in engine management and fueling systems. Like its other engines, increases in power necessitated new engine ID codes. Only the Phaeton and Touareg in the Volkswagen Passenger Cars marque have used a V8 engine. ID code- AXQ
The Volkswagen Type 3 is a compact car manufactured and marketed by Volkswagen from 1961 to 1973. Introduced at the 1961 Frankfurt International Motor Show, the IAA, the Type 3 was marketed as the Volkswagen 1500 and later as the Volkswagen 1600, in two-door notchback, fastback, and station wagon body styles, the latter marketed as the 'Squareback' in the United States.
The Type 1 engine was also used in Type 2 vehicles with additional engine mounting provisions. The term "universal engine case" refers to an engine case that can be used for all three applications. All Type 1 engines used lighter magnesium alloy for the engine case even though late model engines used stronger alloys for durability.
The engine series are all four-cylinder four-stroke, horizontally-opposed, air-cooled, Volkswagen automotive conversion gasoline engines, with direct-drive. They employ magneto ignition systems and, depending on the model, produce 55 to 80 hp (41 to 60 kW) at 3600 rpm, with a compression ratio of 8.0:1. They use a geared electric starter.
Initially the series allowed 1600cc air-cooled engines of either type 3 (as used in the VW 1500 and 1600) or type 4 (as used in the VW 411, 412 and the VW-Porsche 914/4 sports car), however at a late stage VW had a change of heart and decided that the type 4 engines would be a better option. The type 4 engine is without doubt a better engine.
This engine was originally developed by Škoda Auto, before the company was acquired by Volkswagen Group, and is therefore NOT an EA111 engine. However, this engine was used in some VWs after the takeover. identification parts code prefix: 047.D, engine ID codes: AHT, AQV (EU3), ARV (EU2) engine displacement & engine configuration
