Porky Pig is a cartoon character in the Warner Bros. Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies series of cartoons. He was the first character created by the studio to draw audiences based on his star power, and the animators created many critically acclaimed shorts featuring the character. [2]
Looney Tunes continued in black and white until 1943. In 1936, the cartoons began to end with the slogan "That's all Folks!" which had previously only been used on the Looney Tunes series. The old slogan "So Long, Folks!" was completely abandoned at this time.
The tune first appeared in the Merrie Melodies cartoon short Sweet Sioux, released June 26, 1937. Bugs ends the cartoon by saying, "It takes a miracle to get into pictures, and now these two jokers wanna get out." During the ending title, Daffy and Elmer break through the center in their attempt to escape the movie, and Bugs pokes out of the hole that they made and simply says to the audience, "And that's all, folks!".
The cartoon is notable for its ending, in which an elephant says, "That's all, folks!", prompting a quick rendition of "Merrily We Roll Along" as the credits appear. The elephant was voiced by Mel Blanc, who coincidentally also voiced Porky Pig, who also said "That's All Folks" at the end of each Looney Tunes cartoon at the time.
