Momofuku Ando (Japanese: 安藤 百福, Hepburn: Andō Momofuku, March 5, 1910 – January 5, 2007), born Go Pek-Hok (Chinese: 吳百福; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Gô͘ Pek-hok), was a Taiwanese-born Japanese inventor and businessman who founded Nissin Food Products Co., Ltd. [4] He is known as the inventor of Nissin Chikin Ramen (instant noodles) and the creator of the brands Top Ramen and Cup Noodles.
Cup Noodles (カップヌードル, Kappu Nūdoru) is a brand of cup instant ramen developed in 1971 and manufactured by Japanese food company Nissin Foods. Single servings of the product are packaged in foam , plastic, or paper cups and are prepared by adding boiling water.
Ando created a method for deep-frying and drying noodles that could later be cooked using boiling water. He founded the Nissin Foods company, which in 1971 introduced instant noodles marketed as Cup Noodles that were packaged in Styrofoam cups. The company established a US subsidiary, Nissin Foods, in 1970, and began selling instant ramen noodle products under the Japan Instant Noodle Bureau and Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries name Top Ramen in 1972. Nissin Chikin Ramen (1958) and Cup Noodles (1971) were both invented by Momofuku Ando.
