    Here's mine- belonged to a Lt. in B/1 327 who served in 71-72. Part of a larger group, the only item I don't have is the embroidered 'Rat Pack" beret he brought home. 101st patch is U.S. made with VN made Ranger and Airborne arcs. Name is local as well.

    When the 101ST AIRBORNE DIVISION deployed to Europe in for REFORGER '76 I was attending primary school in a Belgian Army Barracks in Germany. Parts of the Division were hosted by my father's unit, the 4TH Belgian Army Cavalry Regiment in Arnsberg, Germany.

    The blue dress was made in 1942 but pattern is 1938 and, as prescribed in AR 600 38, the enlisted men could wear the blue dress uniform in 2 ways: 1. blue dress with ribbon with garrison belt and without m1902 breast cords. 2. full dress with full medals, garrison belt and m1902 breast cords.

    Note both officers have subdued insignia on their jungle fatigues, except for the 101st AB Division SSI which is full color. LTC Stevenson also has a 187th Infantry DUI on his left chest pocket flap. Note Sloan's name tapes are parallel to shirt bottom while Stevenson's name tapes are parallel to pockets.

    If all the paratroopers had been equipped with carbines instead of M-1 rifles, it would have been a lot more difficult for the 101st Airborne to win any battles. Each rifle squad contained a LMG crew, (instead of the B.A.R. found in regular infantry companies) and the PIR squad tactics were built around the LMG laying a base of fire.

    The badge had previously been approved as the Airmobile Badge authorized for local wear by the Commander of the 101st Airborne Division, effective 1 April 1974. The division had been reorganized from parachute to airmobile in mid-1968 in Vietnam and designated the 101st Airborne Division (Airmobile).
