The Mount Washington Wilderness is a wilderness area located on and around Mount Washington in the central Cascade Range of Oregon in the United States. The wilderness was established in 1964 and comprises 54,278 acres (219.66 km 2 ) of the Willamette National Forest and Deschutes National Forest .
The Mount Washington Wilderness includes a number of cinder cones, typically with elevations between 150 and 300 feet (46 and 91 m). Composed of gray to red cinder, they also have scoria and welded spatter. Lake Pillsbury is the largest recreational lake in the forest at 2,280 acres (9.2 km 2) and offers boat ramps, camping and resorts. Letts Lake, southeast of Lake Pillsbury is 35 acres (140,000 m 2 ) in size and has hiking trails, campgrounds and is close to trailheads into Snow Mountain Wilderness.
In 1964, the Wilderness Act created the South Warner Wilderness. In 1984, 1,940 acres (7.9 km 2) were added to the wilderness with the passage of the California Wilderness Act. [2] The Warner crest divides waters that flow west into the Sacramento/Pit River drainage, and east into the Great Basin alkali lakes of Surprise Valley.
