Edward M. Long (1932 – December 17, 2016) was an audio engineer known for introducing the first near-field studio monitors [1] [2] and the first Time-Aligned loudspeaker crossover. [3] [4] [5] In 2021, Ed Long was inducted into the TEC Awards Technology Hall of Fame for his development of the concept of near-field monitoring. [6]
He continued to invent, developing new accordions, accordion amplifiers, and MIDI accordion systems. [3] In 2011, Watkins was awarded the Audio Pro International Lifetime Achievement Award for his groundbreaking approach to loudspeakers and PA for outdoor rock events.
