The University Interscholastic League, the main governing body for academic, athletic, and music competition among public schools in the U.S. state of Texas, sanctions many events for students in grades 2 to 12. Competition in grades 2–8 is limited to district only.
For all competitions excluding Congressional Debate, the first round of competition is the district level. To advance from district to region, a student must either place top three in their event, be a part of a district champion team, or have their team earn a wild card bid.

In 1965, the UIL agreed to admit PVIL member schools for competition. Black schools began UIL competitions beginning in the 1967–68 school year.
