The Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park, commonly known as the Rajiv Gandhi Zoo or Katraj Zoo, [3] is located in Katraj, Pune district, Maharashtra State, India. It is managed by the Pune Municipal Corporation. The 130-acre (53 ha) zoo is divided into three parts: an animal orphanage, a snake park and a zoo and includes the 42-acre (17 ha) Katraj Lake.
There is also an informal bus stop with access to Pune. The region is an eco-tourism hotspot, and outside the town there are many guest houses and gardens. Pashan lake has a total catchment area of 40 square kilometres (15 sq mi), and serves as a source of water to the old Pashan village, and the governor's residence, as well. Recent urbanisation around the lake has led to the fall in the quality of the water. Pashan Lake is an ideal spot for nature lovers and bird watchers.
