The dust jacket (sometimes book jacket, dust wrapper or dust cover) of a book is the detachable outer cover, usually made of paper and printed with text and illustrations. This outer cover has folded flaps that hold it to the front and back book covers ; these flaps may also double as bookmarks .
The most common shelf size is 42 inches deep by 46 inches wide, while two such shelves placed side-by-side can usually be combined to allow for a single shelf of 8 feet wide. The weight capacity of a 42x46 shelf ranges from 2,000 to 3,500 pounds, while the decking itself weighs from 24 to 30 pounds.
The shelf parts are made of melamine-coated or veneered particle board. The edges are covered with plastic strips. The shelves are placed on brass flanged pins, which are themselves inserted into holes with a vertical distance of 32 mm. The shelves are available in several colours and finishes and a width of 40 or 80 cm.
