[2] The county was organized on January 29, 1841, as Kinderhook County and renamed Camden County in 1843 after Charles Pratt, 1st Earl Camden, Lord Chancellor of the United Kingdom and leader of the British Whig Party.
It was established on July 1, 2012, from the merger of the Anthon–Oto Community School District and the Maple Valley Community School District.
