The people of King County voted on September 5, 1911, to create a Port District. King County's Port of Seattle was established as the first Port District in Washington State. The Port of Seattle is King County's only Port District. It is governed by five Port Commissioners, who are elected countywide and serve four-year terms.
While each county has a Superior Court, some of the less populated counties are grouped into a single district, sharing a single judge and administration. The judge for these multi-county districts rotates between the counties as needed, with each County Superior Court having its own courtroom and staff.
