Utahraptor was one of, if not the largest and heaviest of all dromaeosaurids, with the largest assigned specimen BYUVP 15465 having a femoral length of 56.5–60 cm (22.2–23.6 in). [8] [9] Utahraptor is estimated to have reached 6–7 metres (20–23 ft) in length and somewhat less than 500 kg (1,100 lb), comparable in weight to a polar bear.
Illustration of a Utahraptor with a human to scale. 1990. Ostrom published further arguments building a case for a close evolutionary relationship between dromaeosaurids and birds. [5] 1993. Kirkland, Burge, and Gaston described the new genus and species Utahraptor ostrommaysi. [6]
Velociraptor (top) and Utahraptor (bottom) specimens compared to a 1.8 m (5.9 ft) tall human Dromaeosaurids were small to medium-sized dinosaurs, ranging from 1.5–2.07 metres (4.9–6.8 ft) in length (in the case of Velociraptor ) to approaching or over 6 m (20 ft) (in Utahraptor , Dakotaraptor and Achillobator ).

Fossils of Tawa-like dinosaurs have also been found in South America, which has important indications about paleogeography. During the Early Jurassic Period, dinosaurs such as Dilophosaurus, Anchisaurus, Coelophysis (formerly known as Megapnosaurus), and the early thyreophoran Scutellosaurus lived in North America.
