Marshall Jacob Brickman was born on August 25, 1939, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to American parents Pauline (née Wolin) and Abram Brickman. [4] His parents were Jewish. [5] [6] [7] His father immigrated from Poland. [4] The family returned to the United States in 1943, and Brickman grew up in Flatbush, Brooklyn. [4] [8]

In 1837, 26 families from the region came to the Logan area. The first Masses said were in the homes of Catholics in the area, with future bishop of Erie Joshua Young ministering to the community. A log church was completed by 1844 and dedicated by bishop John Purcell in 1845. [2]
