Passing the south end of Alton Pond, the route crosses into the town of Richmond, Route 91 changes to Church Street and turns east along a residential stretch. [2] Route 91 leaves Alton and proceeds eastward into Wood River Junction, where it intersects with New Kings Factory Road, paralleling the Northeast Corridor.
The section between Highway 401 and the then-unopened Highway 407 interchange was turned over to the Region of York and the City of Toronto on April 1, 1995, and is known as Markham Road south of Highway 407, and Main Street thereafter to Sixteenth Avenue, where the name Markham Road resumes for 2 km (1.2 mi) until Major Mackenzie Drive.
Alton is a small village of approximately 250 residents within the town of Richmond, Rhode Island, United States. It is located about one hour south of Providence, the state's capital.
