IEEE 200-1975 or "Standard Reference Designations for Electrical and Electronics Parts and Equipments" is a standard that was used to define referencing naming systems for collections of electronic equipment. The reference desk certainly has its issues, but as others have pointed out it is a good resource, does provide value to the encyclopedia and our readers, and generally does an alright job at what it purposes to do. Certainly it has issues, but these can be fixed by a manner of gradual policy and culture changes rather than large scale reform.
