State Route 257 (SR 257) is a southwest–to–northeast state highway located in the central part of the U.S. state of Georgia. It travels from Cordele to Dublin , via Hawkinsville . Its routing is located within portions of Crisp , Dooly , Wilcox , Pulaski , Bleckley , Dodge , and Laurens counties.
Dexter is located in western Laurens County at (32.434580, -83.058904). [7] Georgia State Route 257 is the town's Main Street; the highway leads northeast 12 miles (19 km) to Dublin, the county seat, and southwest 6 miles (10 km) to Chester.

The route travels to the north-northwest, to the town of Dexter, where it has a concurrency with SR 257 (North Main Street). The route continues to the north-northwest, and enters Dudley . It curves to the northeast, to an interchange with Interstate 16 (I-16; Jim Gillis Historic Savannah Parkway) in the southwestern part of the town.
Georgia State Route 126 passes through the town as Main Street, leading west 13 miles (21 km) to Cochran and southeast 8 miles (13 km) to Cadwell. Georgia State Route 257 joins SR 126 on Main Street through the center of Chester, but leads northeast 7 miles (11 km) to Dexter and southwest 9 miles (14 km) to Empire.
