Cross Village is located in northwestern Emmet County, on the shore of Lake Michigan at the southern limit of Sturgeon Bay. The community is in Cross Village Township.The northern terminus of M-119 is in Cross Village; the highway runs south along the lakeshore 20 miles (32 km) to Harbor Springs.

Statistically, the region is known as the Saginaw, Midland, and Bay City Metropolitan Area , a combined statistical area composed of these three counties.
