He was named a Fellow of the Explorers Club in 1997 and is also a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society , the Royal Canadian Geographical Society , and an Officer in Spain's Order of Civil Merit .
He then completed his M.A. and Ph.D. from the same university in Archaeology. Erlandson also was a founding co-editor of the Journal of Island and Coastal Archaeology. [2] He has also published more than 400 scholarly articles and edited or written 29 books. In 2013, Erlandson was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
