Dollywood's Splash Country is a 35-acre (14 ha) water park located in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, adjacent to the Dollywood theme park. The park's central theme rests around entertainer Dolly Parton's childhood swimming in the rivers of the Great Smoky Mountains.
Soak City originally opened in 1989 as a 12-acre (4.9 ha) water park under the name WaterWorks featuring 15 water slides, a wave pool, and a lazy river ride called Action River. [3] WaterWorks was the first themed area to be added to Kings Island since 1976, bringing the total to seven. The cost was roughly $4 million USD. [4]
In 1988, the waterpark opened as Soak City. [1] The park originally consisted of ten slides, but more slides were added between 1990 and 1995: Main Stream and Tadpole Town in 1990 and Zoom Flume, Choo Choo Lagoon, and Renegade River in 1995.
Other retaining walls elsewhere in the park that once held elevated gardens continued to sag severely in July 2009. As of April 2019, the only remnants of the water park that can be seen from Route 83 are some lights that illuminated the water park. A big red billboard that says “Advertise Here” can be seen at the top the hill.
